Semi-permanent couplers for nem sockets(1) Robin 19/01/2010 20:11:40 | | I am minded to equip a rake of wagons (fitted with nem coupler sockets) with semi-permanent couplers within that rake. I seem to remember seeing somewhere plastic mouldings with nem-compatible lugs at each end. However, I cannot seem to find a maker or supplier of such things Do they exist, or have I dreamt it?

You haven't dreamt it. Bachmann are producing the very thing with electrical connectors for their 4-CEP, (perhaps it might be worth mentioning to them as a potential separate product in non-conducting form?).
One maker who has it available is the German business Rietze, who offer the Ribu Train close coupling system, and show the very item you want on their website. Not cheap for a small piece of plastic. No idea if they have UK distribution, or whether it will necessary to order directly, as I haven't ordered from them; actually only found their site by accident about a week ago.

You might also want to try to get hold of a Roco catalogue as they may well offer the item. They certainly offer a coupler (believe it is no. 40270) which forms a rigid link, enables vehicles to be lifted directly out of a train for hand rearrangement: principally intended for use with close coupling mechanisms with which I can confirm it works beautifully. Previously I had been using the rigid links Bachmann supply with their mk1 coaches, suitably shortened by heating and reforming. Having a coupler which makes a rigid link is much more convenient in my experience.

They are a resemblece of the vac and steam pipe between coaches, although do not have the classic 'crossed over' appearance that is so characteristic of the brakepipe and heating pipe configuration.
As you want them for wagons you might find them more acceptable than I do for coaches, and I dare say will be less expensive than sourcing continental components.
I think Bachmann also sell, as a seperate component, the 'bar' type coupling as used in the Voyager units and intermodal wagons.
Check out the 'Bachmann Other' items on Hattons website. I think they are all on there.
