It seems Heljan are making a 'retailer sponsored' version for Olivias Trains, now we find Bachmann intend to also do their own version, first mentioned by Rails of Sheffield.
Is it coincidence that Olivias is also in Sheffield?
What is going on here? We have waited years for a decent Pullman and now two manufacturers are going head to head.
My guess is that the Heljan/Olivias one will not happen. Any comments? Perhaps a comment from Mr Olivia? He must be gutted if he's stumped up development costs up front! and where does that leave his 76 and 77 projects, also with Heljan?

Blue Pullman(2) — Robin — 29/07/2010 20:44:15 | There's lots of stuff on t'internet about this subject. I've even seen mention of Hornby doing a Railroad version (probably conjecture).
It intruiges me that there is still so much interest from manufacturers and their customers in old stuff that this old man can hardly remember. I'd have thought that more modern subjects like (say) a First Transpennine 185 would have sold well enough to recoup the development costs with more certainty.
On the other hand, I'm sure the manufacturers aren't idiots. What does this backward looking say about the model railway hobby? | |

Bachmann are to make it for release 2011. Olivias trains have abandoed the project with Heljan. Hornby are just reviewing the moulds in China. The train of thought is only Bachmann will produce the 6 car set at £300. Retailers are taking pre orders at about £290. Olivias have transfered deposits to the Bachmann version. I think they are also offering refunds. (check out their website) | |

Blue Pullman(5) — rodney — 12/08/2010 12:19:36 | Further to the above posting I now see that Hattons have announced a 10000 and 10001 in conjunction with Heljan - despite this already being announced by Rails in conjunction with Bachmann.
I think the Sponsors/Retailers and the manufacturers need to get communicating otherwise we will end up with nothing we want or several outlets doing the same thing which doesn't sell through and no more will be done!
